EPISODE SUMMARY:

  • Chronic illness can be invisible and we don’t always know how to present ourselves in the world when we are going through something like this. Marin shares her story of living with chronic illness for 29 years. She says that it’s so important to present a picture to the world that shows people that chronic illness isn’t always the person who hasn’t washed her hair in days, it’s the person sitting next to you and you just don’t know!
  • How do you handle when someone asks how you are doing today? Are you being honest or are you telling others that you’re fine when you’re really not? It can be a hard question to answer but it’s ok to not be ok and take it one day at a time.
  • While also struggling with her own chronic illness, Marin talks about how she was able to not only care for herself but others that face the same struggles. It started out as having resources for others to her realizing that she had an opportunity to help people in a big way!
    • “I realized that this is how I wanted to spend the rest of my life. I wanted to help people feel as good as I have figured out how to feel with these illnesses.” - Marin Turner
  • Although Marin does the mental health work on herself, she can still struggle with her own self worth and feels guilty for not always feeling well.
    • “You can work on your health and get all of the support that you want but if you don’t work on your inner self and relationships, your health will continue to fail.” -Marin Turner
  • Surround yourself with a community that understands. Marin shares how much surrounding herself with online communities where she didn’t feel alone helped her.
    • “I need to help more badass women get mad and get health!” -Marin Turner
